Pilgrim Restaurant Liverpool

After a series of sold-out events in London, we take the Pilgrim concept on the BBC2/Netflix Million Pound Menu and win investment to open the first bricks and mortar site in Liverpool.

The Pilgrim Concept

Pilgrim is a Spanish dining experience that draws inspiration from the routes of the ancient pilgrimage across Spain called The Camino De Santiago. With multiple starting points across Spain, Portugal and France, The Camino routes meander across the country and culminate at the tomb of Saint James at Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Western Spain. The menus at Pilgrim follow a specific route of the Camino, showcasing the unique regional dishes, produce and flavours found along the way.

We took Pilgrim from a series of sold-up pop-up dinner events in East London to appearing on, and winning, the Netflix hit programme, ‘Million Pound Menu’. From here, we were able to open and launch the concept in Liverpool. In Liverpool, we built Pilgrim as a place we’d want to hang out. Over a huge, custom-built fire pit, we cooked everything over sustainable wood charcoal as they do in the Basque cider houses. With Spanish beers, cocktails and an all-Spanish wine list, a spot at the bar quickly became the best spot in Liverpool.

Since opening, Pilgrim garnered rave reviews including features in The Sunday Times and The Guardian and in our first year we were awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand by the Michelin Guide 2020, the only Merseyside restaurant to receive the award.

Why did Pilgrim close?

I returned home to Melbourne in March 2020 to visit family and friends and host a series of Pilgrim pop-up dinner events in my home town, only for COVID-19 to hit and grind the world to a halt.

6 months into Melbourne lockdown, I made the hard yet necessary decision to step away from Pilgrim and stay in Melbourne.

Pilgrim closed its doors shortly after and is now permanently closed.
